With a deep appreciation for wild places and wild animals, Mike moved to Alaska in 1987,
where he worked as a natural history and fly-out fly fishing guide for five years, learning the
ways of natural cycles and the tightly woven balance of life and death. Eager to experience new
places in different ways he became an advanced scuba diver and a private pilot. With camera in
hand, Mike began documenting his exploits, evolving his self-taught craft of wildlife photography
to a professional level.
Videography has been a large part of Mike's life as well, winning a nationally televised contest
with footage of spawning rainbow trout, filmed in Alaska. Presently, he owns and operates
REELHARD.com and is a contributing photographer & writer for the Drake magazine.
